Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Cheevo ("we," "our," or "us") is an app for checking in at places and events in New Orleans. This policy explains what the Cheevo apps for iPhone and Android and this website collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

You give us:

• Account information: email address, name, username, profile photo, banner and bio. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email (or Apple's private relay address) from them.
• Posts: the cheevos you unlock, and any photos, videos (including their audio), notes, comments and reactions you add.
• Social connections: who you follow, who follows you, and who you block or report.

The apps collect, with your permission:

• Precise location: used while the app is open to show cheevos near you, and sent to our server when you check in so it can confirm you are at the place. We save the place you checked in at with your post, not your exact GPS reading. The apps never use location in the background.
• Camera, microphone and photo library: only when you choose to add a photo or video.
• Push notification token: if you allow notifications, so we can tell you about follows, comments and reactions.

Collected automatically:

• Usage data: which screens and features you use (Firebase Analytics), linked to your account after you sign in.
• Diagnostics: crash reports and performance measurements (Firebase Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring).
• Device identifiers: app instance identifiers used by these Firebase services, and app-integrity checks (Apple App Attest and Google Play Integrity) that confirm requests come from the real app.

We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, we do not use advertising identifiers, and there are no ads in Cheevo.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Run your account and show your profile, posts, points and progress
• Confirm check-ins happen in person
• Show cheevos and events near you, and weather-based cheevos (using Apple WeatherKit)
• Show your posts to the people your privacy setting allows
• Send the notifications you turned on
• Find and fix bugs, and keep the service secure
• Review reports and enforce our Terms of Service

4. Who Can See Your Posts

You choose for each post: Public (anyone signed in to Cheevo), Followers Only, or Private (only you). Your username, name, profile photo, bio, points and follower counts are visible to other Cheevo users. Photos and videos are only served to people your post's setting allows.

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:

• Google Firebase, which hosts our accounts, database, file storage and server code, and provides analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring and push notifications
• Apple and Google, for Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, App Attest, Play Integrity and WeatherKit
• Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect people's safety

6. How Long We Keep It

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, photos, videos, comments, reactions and follows are deleted within 24 hours, and removed from backups within 30 days. Crash and analytics data is kept by Firebase for its standard retention periods and is not used to identify you after deletion.

7. Your Rights and Choices

• See and change your profile at any time in the app
• Download a copy of your data: Profile → Settings → Export My Data
• Delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account), or follow the steps on our account deletion page
• Turn off location, camera, microphone, photo or notification access in your phone's settings
• Block or report other users from their profile or posts

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

Cheevo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete it. See our child safety standards.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Firebase. Access is limited by security rules, and the server checks every check-in. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.

10. Changes to This Policy

When we change this policy we will update the date above. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
